THE HEALTH ALLIANCE FOR AUSTIN MUSICIANS The nonprofit that keeps music in Austin alive and well

The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that provides access to affordable healthcare for Austin’s low-income working musicians.

Challenge

HAAM needed a trusted strategic partner to help expand its brand to keep pace with rapid growth inside the constantly changing health care industry. The goal was to highlight the HAAM mission and establish the organization as the go-to resource for Austin musicians with steady, consistent conversations with the press. Red Fan was also tasked with building awareness of the nonprofit’s major fundraising events and ensuring that HAAM was mentioned in third-party event press coverage.

Solution

Red Fan worked carefully with the HAAM team to discover untold storylines that would showcase the organization’s mission. We established messaging that would resonate with HAAM’s target audience and set success measurements for events as we moved to solidify HAAM’s reputation as a leader in the Austin nonprof it scene.

With Austin growing rapidly, HAAM needed to keep pace. Red Fan helped establish HAAM a valued resource as Austin’s cost of living rises. Messaging would help musicians and citizens understand how the nonprofit shifts to meet the needs of Austin’s working musicians even as the city changes.

Results

HAAM is a recognizable name in giving circles and seen as an important organization to Austin, Texas. Notably, while working together, HAAM and Red Fan Communications experienced two of the most successful HAAM Benefit Day events and saw the HAAM narrative come to life. The organization has been recognized in new ways — namely around the leadership of HAAM’s executive director.

HAAM has been featured on every broadcast station in Austin. Articles about the nonprofit have appeared in the Austin American-Statesman, CultureMap Austin, Tribeza, Austin Monthly, On the Dot, Austin Woman, Austin Chronicle, West Austin News, Austin Business Journal and more. Subsequently, Red Fan won a silver Bulldog PR award for the work done around the 2017 HAAM Benefit Day fundraising event.

Kathleen and her team at Red Fan are amazing partners. And “partner” is the word to emphasize. I have no doubt that they are as invested in our success and outcomes as we are. The experienced team brings new and creative ideas, but they also ask questions and challenge us in areas that need to be examined. I have learned to respect not only their day-to-day expertise in media and PR but more importantly their overall strategy and business sense. We are lucky to have such a seasoned group of professionals in our corner. This team is responsive and easy to work with – plus they are just a whole lot of fun. The only downside of this recommendation is that we want to keep them to ourselves!
