Q2: From Austin to Wall Street, going public on the New York Stock Exchange

Q2—an ebanking platform that serves more than 400 financial institutions and about 3 million end users—is one of Austin’s true success stories. In 2014, Q2 went public on the New York Stock Exchange. Its success was determined not just on the stock market floor but also in the months of preparation and strategic communication leading up to the IPO. A long-time client of Red Fan Communications, Q2 needed to establish consistent brand messaging, thought leadership platforms for its executives and a strong voice in the media through bylines and interviews prior to its IPO.

The first few months of Red Fan’s relationship with Q2 involved the finalization of core messaging, introduction to industry analysts and press at trade shows, thought leadership writing, media relations and byline placement, all to act as a base of support for Q2’s eventual launch in the public sphere. To ensure media coverage at all levels, Red Fan executed a seamless media outreach campaign—including extensive media training for Q2’s executives—across local, regional, national and trade publications. The campaign generated more than 1 billion media impressions from media such as the Austin Business Journal, Austin American-Statesman, CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, USA Today, The Washington Post and many more.

Red Fan also provided on-site support for the IPO itself, ensuring materials for the media were prepared and coordinated with the New York Stock Exchange press and event contacts to secure key interviews throughout the day.

In addition to the successful IPO, Red Fan assisted Q2 in securing Roy Spence, chairman and co-founder of GSD&M, as the keynote speaker for Connect 2014, Q2’s annual customer conference.
