How to Rock this Valentine’s Day in Austin

It’s that time of year again: the sun is shining, the lovebirds are singing and you are in a hurry to come up with a Valentine’s Day surprise because you’re just now realizing how quickly this Hallmark holiday has crept up on you (whoops!). We can’t really blame you though - after all, wasn’t it just Christmas?

So put down the heart-shaped box of chocolates and listen to the pros. Everything is going to be okay. In fact, it’s going to be amazing because the Red Fan team has you covered. Here are our recommendations on treating your sweetheart, or yourself, on Cupid’s Day.

For the sweetie with a sweet tooth:

Pick up some chocolate-covered strawberries at Lammes or Amy’s Ice Cream for a tasty classic.

Don’t have time to stop anywhere? Order a box of dark chocolate ganache pieces from Wayward Chocolat or a dozen cookies from Tiff’s Treats and get your gift delivered straight to the door.

For the love of blooms:

Find a beautiful arrangement or succulent garden from Cowgirls and Flowers.

Need man flowers? Try a six-pack of Devil’s Backbone, an assortment of jerky from Man Crates or a cheese gift basket from Antonelli’s Cheese Shop.

A night out with the besties:

Check out Drink.Well. or Vino Vino for wine with the girls, Midnight Cowboy for cocktails or bring a cooler, grill out and sit around the fire at Ink’s Lake State Park.

There’s no whining in dining but there sure is wine:

Mediterranean lovers will enjoy a dish at Fino or a taste of Italy at Asti. French foodies should try the wine list and scrumptious entrees at laV. For the seafood-loving couple visit Kome Sushi or try Truluck's Seafood Steak & Crab House's catch of the day.

Like to stay in? Take out Home Slice Pizza or visit the farmer’s market at the Sustainable Food Center for Tecolote Farm’s fresh produce that's perfect for a home-cooked meal.

Stopping the show with a little glitz and glam:

Gift your honey a day of beauty or grooming at Sugarcoat Nails or Austin’s Blo, or treat them to a massage at Mecca.

For men, try a gift card to Stag to pick out a new shirt or cologne.

For the gem who treasures life’s moments:

RSVP for an evening of stiff drinks and one-of-a-kind jewelry on Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at RSK.

Rock Your Red on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for a night of style and fashion benefiting the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Movement in Austin.

On Friday, Feb. 13 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., check out the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’s exhibition, Curiouser & Curiouser!, at the Ransom Center. But get your tickets quickly! They will only be on sale until Wednesday, Feb. 11.

See Bob Schneider and the Moonlight Orchestra featuring the Tosca Strings Quartet at the Moody Theatre at their expected sell-out show on Saturday, Feb. 14th at 8 p.m.

Not for you? Take an authentic farmhouse brewery tour this weekend at Austin’s Jester King. Try some stand up comedy at Cap City Comedy or have a night out on the town to enjoy some jazz with your significant other at the Elephant Room.
