ACL – The Red Fan Way

It’s that time of year again, Austin, when the city is abuzz with all that ACL has to offer – the music, the food and, of course, the parties. The best part is that it’s only halfway over. After wrapping up weekend one, Red Fan has crafted a list of must-have items and need-to-know info that will guarantee a successful weekend two at ACL. Below, you’ll find our top picks for music, food and fashion for this weekend.

Music

To get your fix of Texas music (Austin, specifically), be sure to check out Band of Heathens on Sunday at 12:20 p.m. They’re a little rock, a little country, a little blues and with the newest album, a little jam band.

You’ve probably heard Grouplove’s popular hit “Tongue Tied” on the radio this year. For some upbeat tunes that just might make you dance, don’t miss their set Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

For a more mellow experience, you can’t beat The National. The doldrums of the singer’s voice will mesmerize you. You can catch them Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Muse puts on a phenomenal show that is very visually immersive and will be the perfect way to end your Friday at ACL. And of course, there’s The Cure and Depeche Mode – classic 80s bands not to be missed!

Food

Nothing says “Austin Festival” better than The Best Wurst. They’re at every big Austin event and are sure to satisfy your hunger wonderfully.

Second Bar + Kitchen is making a delicious statement at ACL this year with their truffled pomme frites. Trust us.

Though they don’t typically have a booth at ACL, you can usually find Austin’s own Sweet Leaf Tea floating around the park. The best for quenching your thirst in the Texas heat? Mint & Honey, definitely. It’s beyond refreshing.

Whether you find yourself near Barton Springs, Deep Eddy or looking for respite in Hyde Park, Juiceland has the “ACL Reboot” starting Oct. 14. Anticipating ACL attendees will need some rejuvenation on Monday, Juiceland is offering a five-day juice cleanse. Check out further details on the Juiceland website.

Festival Wear

Sundress/Maxi – something lightweight that won’t cling to you is key to survive the infamous Texas heat.

Red Fan favorite: Embarcadero Maxi Dress from Anthropologie

Sassy booties or flip-flops – In Austin, flip-flops are respectable all year long. Be sure to wear something you don’t mind getting dirty – just make sure they’re comfortable and broken in (you’ll be doing a lot of walking)!

Red Fan favorite: Tyler’s on the drag has a great selection of sandals including the oh-so comfy Reefs. Check them out here. If booties are more your style, check out the boot selection from Urban Outfitters, sure to have something for everyone.

Sunglasses – the sun will be blazing, and you don’t want to see your favorite band(s) through a squint. Protect your eyes!

Red Fan favorite: Ray-Ban sunglasses are always in style. Let your friends see how great they look in the pink, blue or orange reflection of your Original Aviator 58mm sunglasses or step it up a notch with the newer Round Glamour 56 mm polarized sunglasses.

Bag/Tote – many of us here at Red Fan have a bag dedicated to festivals and concerts – big enough to fit a water bottle, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, tissues, makeup, all the necessities.

Red Fan favorite: Lunatic Black Tote Bag from Austin’s own Fortress of Inca

Transportation

If you can swing it, have a friend drop you off nearby and save yourself some cash and the hassle of finding parking. You’re going to be eager to get to your lineup!

Riding your bike to and from the park is always a great way to avoid traffic. There are tons of bike racks at Zilker for ACL.

The many pedi-cabs that will be around this weekend are another fun way to get there, and you won’t have to do any of the work!

Also, be sure you don’t forget sunscreen, a factory-sealed water bottle, cash, Kleenex™ and hand sanitizer.

Enjoy the weekend!
