A day in the Life of a PR Agency Owner

A day in the life of a boutique agency owner

First things first, coffee.

Red Fan Communications President and Founder Kathleen Lucente spends her days networking, strategizing with her stellar accounts team and building top-notch PR campaigns for clients all over the nation.

A philanthropist at heart, Lucente surrounds herself with creative people and places that inspire her to achieve greatness on behalf of her clients big and small, all while juggling an adorable family, a few board positions around town and a bit of a caffeine addiction (read: huge).

Ever wondered what it would be like to run a PR agency? Take a look inside Red Fan’s fearless leader’s day-to-day.

9:00 a.m.: Arrive at the historic Helms House for a day full of meetings, brainstorms and, of course, coffee. (Somehow, before 9, she’s managed to walk the dog, feed the kids and send them off to their day’s activities.)

10:00 a.m.: After an hour of settling in, reviewing emails and chowing down on a breakfast taco from one of her local favorites, Kathleen checks in with her account leads on client whereabouts and chimes in with her expert opinion.

10:45 a.m.: A quick thirty-minute break leads her to Hyde Park Gym, where Kathleen sweats it out with her spunky personal trainer, getting energized and feeling amazing for the week’s activities.

11:30 a.m.: Off to the first meeting of the day: lunch with her fellow board members of Austin Gives. One of her biggest philanthropic efforts in town, Kathleen sits as the 2016-2017 Chair of the Board, encouraging companies across the greater Austin area to join, highlight and amplify their giving efforts.

A PR Specialists Day In The Life

1 p.m.: On her way back in, she grabs a London Fog from Starbucks (digging into her Northeast roots) to fuel part two of the day. Her trusty pup, Hank, awaits her at the office and needs a quick walk around the block.

1:15 p.m.: Lightbulb! All she needed was 15 minutes of fresh air to brainstorm the next bright idea for one of our financial technology or local Austin clients. Some of our most creative campaign ideas have come from moments outside the office’s walls, like while Kathleen is touching up on her color at Janet St. Paul’s salon downtown. What better time to kick back, relax and shoot off some emails?

2:00 p.m.: Time for an internal Red Fan meeting. Our strategic marketing meetings ensure that the house is in order while our heads are down working hard on client campaigns. Kathleen uses these times as a great reminder that Red Fan is a client, too, and we should treat it with equal fervor.

3:00 p.m.: Finally back at her desk, Kathleen sits down to hash out her latest blog post. This usually requires closed doors, dimmed lights and an open news feed for inspiration. From PR tips to industry trends, Kathleen has a knack for capturing communications essentials in 700 words or less.

4:30 p.m.: As the day winds down, Kathleen says “ciao!” to her accounts team one by one, always sure to ask if there is any final item she can assist with for the day.

5:00 p.m.: While the office empties, Kathleen takes the opportunity to scour the business news with the latest Austin Business Journal and Austin American-Statesman. The windows closed, the office silent, she uses these unique moments to brainstorm what’s next for Red Fan and how she can propel our clients to new heights.

5:30 p.m.: The office finally closes, and Kathleen and Hank are off to the next, best part of their day: family dinner.
